„Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
Steve Jobs
After a lot of years in design, advertising and communication consulting I found my way back to my vocation. And found a way to work with passion. I started AEOLOS YACHTS.
Looking back on the Covid 19 period, I am glad about the lockdown in Dubai. Forced to consciously pause, I got the calm and alert mind to even perceive the inner voice in the midst of life's routine. These are the important moments for essential questions like:
- Is this path still right for me?
- What do I really want?
Answers are not to be found in a weekend seminar. And for no money in the world. I believe everyone is carrying the answers within.
Since I was 8 years old, I dreamed about building boats. I have done thousands of drawings. I drove my parents and teachers crazy. I´ve read every book I was able got get about sailing. I own and read all German "YACHT" magazines since 1918. 1980, with 14 years I designed my first Aeolos. I had always a distinctive passion for performance.
Designing and production of radio controlled model yachts was a good training. In the lockdown I had the time for self reflection and designing a radical boat.
Sailing teaches me working in a team and racing to improve myself and the boats. I have always worked with carbon composites as an important tool for increasing speed and reliability.
30 years of working as a communications, design and sales strategy consultant and doing a lot of pro bono work as a start-up coach was a good foundation for marketing my own boats.
TIME TO CHANGE
If you want to be very successful in business, you need to be clear about what drives you. For some, it's the recognition and respect you get as a successful entrepreneur. For others, it's the challenge of building something from scratch and seeing it grow. And for still others, it's simply the thrill of competition.
But no matter what your motivations are, one thing is certain: Don't think that following the inner calling is easy. It is hard work. You need a plan. The plan needs to be adapted to reality and improved every day. But if you follow your passion, you have the power to do it.
All the time there are disturbances, distractions that tempt you to deviate from the plan, to change course. So drawing clear boundaries is necessary. Deliberately setting boundaries is essential in so many areas of our lives. Check yourself before you say yes to anything. And learn to trust yourself and your inner voice.
